I would like to recall here the words of the Venice Commission, according to which the prohibition of the imperative mandate is “s a cornerstone of European democratic constitutionalism” https://www.venice.coe.int/webforms/documents/default.aspx?pdffile=CDL-AD(2009)027-e . Direct democracy makes sense only when contextualised in contexts of representative democracy. The overcoming of the representative democracy is not an option in my view, we should learn from the legacy what post-WWII constitutionalism. Of course, direct democracy can enrich parliamentary democracy but cannot replace it. Best wishes for the festive season. G
